Scotch eggs - an illusion shattered!

Apropos a recent discussion vis-a-vis Scottish versus Scotch, it is my sad duty to dispel a commonly held misconception that Scotch Eggs have anything to do with Scotland. Apparently they were originally invented by a well-known London emporium by the name of Fortnum & Mason and the "Scotch" in the name refers specifically to the sausage meat & breadcrumb coating and not to any association with Scotland, real or imagined. So there - another illusion shattered.

Yeah, I knew that for a long time, but they're still tasty.

That's okay, Kiev isn't is Russia either. Ukraine is its own country. Having said that, Chicken Kiev was served at the dinner preceeding the Moscow Marathon, so they think it's Russian.

    And I LOVE Scotch Eggs

That reminds me of "traditional corned beef and cabbage" people try to get me to eat on St.Patrick's day. While it was consumed in place of ham by poor Irish immigrants in New York, brine cured brisket is not a "traditional Irish meal"!

A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. However, I'm sticking with "Scotch Eggs." "Fortnum & Mason Eggs" just doesn't do it for me.
