28, when I first went to live in Scotland. My first kilt was a second hand "white" royal stuart tartan and eventually I got a proper one in my own tartan.

I was 30.
It was a production of Macbeth and I was stunned at how comfortable that Black Watch tank made me feel even if it was too long.

I had my first kilt when I was 7. It was for Highland dancing at primary school. I've never looked back since and have always loved wearing one. I really got into it in a big way when backpacking as a student. I find it sensational for walking the hills.

It's an old thread, but still fun for the forum to have.
I hadn't made one yet before my mom had made a cotton or linen buchanan "kilt" on me. When I could walk, I moved up to a wool Royal Stewart. I'll have to dig out the pictures of my first Highland Games.

Sorry, James, to be so old hat, but to me this is new and I find it most refreshing. Please be understanding . . .

I got my first kilt in March 2009, so I was twenty then. Now I have four of them, two self-made... what's happening to me...

Bought one for my second wedding at age 54 (last year). Now I own four and wear one every chance I get.
