Anybody going to Bridgeport West Virginia?
I moved from my native West Virginia many years ago, but still visit around once a year.
I'd long wanted to attend the West Virginia Highland Games and finally did last year, at Bridgeport.
I wore my LA Scots uniform and marched in the Massed Bands, sticking out like a sore thumb due to my grey hose and shirt (quite a fad among California pipe bands).
Anyhow, any X Markers going to be there? I'll be there on Saturday May 1st 2010.
Anyone have photos of the 2009 Massed Bands? I'd love to see them.
See you there! Richard
Here are my snaps from the 2009 Games:

OK I've got my flight booked!! See you there!
All the people I met were wonderful and gracious.
Too bad it's a "dry" event. Our California events are often likewise held in parks etc but alcohol can be sold if a fenced-off "beer tent" area is created. Not so it seems in some other states.
The "beer tent" is such a vital element to Highland Games both in Scotland and out here that it's strange to attend an event without one.

So... any X Markers going?
If so, I'll see you next weekend!
I'd buy you a beer but there's no alcohol there!
But I'll certainly buy you an IrnBru!

Back from West Virginia! Got in at 11pm, which felt like 2am due to "jet lag".
Here's me and Sean Husk, a piper in the Great Lakes pipe band, I think it's called:
Here's a solo competitor in the morning
and the Massed Bands at noon:

I was there! Found out about it sorta last-minute. We'd been to the event in Beckley, but we had somehow missed this one during it's now nine-year run. The wife and I had a very pleasant time, and plan to make it a regular occassion. We'll look for you next time!

I spent most of the day hanging out at the Albannach tent

I guess we should wear some sort of identifying thing... maybe I should buy an X Marks cap badge??
In that photo I'm the guy on the left, wearing the Balmoral bonnet and greenish tweed waistcoat. In the morning I was running around in the greenish kilt jacket, my muted Drummond of Perth kilt, and the coolest-looking sporran at the Games
