As far as corporations using tartan I'm happy when it's used wisely - even in Lothian buses, as it's an endorsement - or at least a use of something Scottish! There's tartans for just about everything now anyway as well!
As far as my ancestry, I do not know my direct male line's name. Many would say I therefore should not wear the tartan related to the name carried over from my great grandmother (I don't at the moment anyway), and perhaps not wear any clan tartan at all. Even if I found the roots of what my "real" surname would have been, I really don't think I'd feel a connection at all.
Thanks for your opinion, Tom. What do you make of corporation tartans and would you wear one if you have a strong affiliation e.g. Kenneth being clergy, or if you were part of an orginisation with a tartan?
Corporation and any other tartans are fine if an individual wants to wear them?? I'm afraid they're just not for me!! My wife asked me to go along to get measured for a new kilt as a bithday present about five years ago, I assumed I was getting a new Cameron tartan (my own Clan) unfortunately she ordered the Paisley tartan (district) the town where we reside! I'm not a Buddie (native of Paisley) I'm a born and bred Glasgow man, the kilt has lain in my wardrobe since it arrived, stupid I know!! but for me its Clan or nothing!!
