Why is the HoE muted so much more vibrant than the other mills? Is this a trick of the light or do they really stand apart that much?
While we're at it, It looks to my highly trained internet eye that the Strathmore 13oz muted for Clanranald is ever so slightly darker than the Marton Mills 16oz of the same. Again, are my eyes playing tricks on me or have I deduced correctly?
Anyone able to post and identify more Clanranald kilts would gain my gratitude.

There's no agreed upon, "Pantone number" standard for what color "muted red", etc. is across the tartan weaving industry. Each mill generally uses the same particular thread color for their "muted red", "modern red", "ancient red", etc. within a given color scheme (HOE will from time to time on specific tartans does not even do this...) From mill to mill, however, those colors are slightly different, some darker, some more muted, etc.
Photos make it difficult. If you are very picky about the particular color shades used in your kilt, you need to request fabric swatches so that you can see the colors in "real life".
Cordially,
David
