Seconding the welcome- and wearing a kilt to a Burns supper is most appropriate. My understanding is that in the States, we make them black tie affairs, while in Scotland, they are only semiformal, so it sounds to me like the outfit you describe would be perfect. I myself plan on wearing my Albannach tartan kilt from USA Kilts, sage green hose with cuffs made to match my Albannach, white shirt, red tie, black sweater vest, and a formal rabbit fur sporran. (I would point out here that I am well aware that a semidress sporran would be much more appropriate, but my son... involuntarily destroyed my semidress sporran and I haven't replaced it yet. Actually I should post about my options in the advice forum.)

Thanks again for the replies, there's only one more thing; the suit jacket is a little long where my belt won't show, and I have to leave my bottom button undone. Would that be alright? I'm used to wearing a kilt casually now, but this is different.

Saw your look tonight...
A friend attended our Burns Dinner tonight in a borrowed kilt, no sporran, and a blue blazer. He looked fine and got several compliments on the kilt, which he passed on to his friend, the loaner.
Unless the people you are dining with are insufferably stuffy, you will look great and have a good time. This was my first Burns Night (new thread? "Confessions of a Burns Night Virgin"?) and I had a great time. Saw people I had no idea were active in Scottish Heritage and got to reconnect with folks from festivals this past summer.
Go kilted and have a good time!

Don't make life too complicated. Just do your best and enjoy!

Wise words there. Another option for you to consider would be a black, or, very dark blue pullover--the look can be very effective. Have fun.

I'd say anyone who woul even make a comment about wearing a kilt to a Burns Supper, doesn't actually understand what a Burns Supper is :P
We're having one down at the local pub this monday (I have seen no others, though didn't look THAT hard) and I fully intend to go kilted. Everyone I know expects me too as well :P

Yes around here Burns Supper is kiltie night, with everyone's utmost Highland finery on display. The one I played at last night was like that. Men not in kilts in suits or even tuxes. Women quite formally dressed.
But every year I also play at a Burns Supper which is an informal gathering in a restaurant/pub. Kilts are there, but people leave their Prince Charlies at home.
