    I've got to agree with Glen about Tandy. The closest one to you is the one I use as well - I was there on Monday. It is about a 2 hour drive for me, but so worth it. They are all knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Their new catalogue (2010) has just come out. Why not ring or email and request one - their range of leather treatment products is huge.

    When ever I have to dye something made of leather weather its a belt or shoes etc: I away's clean the objects first with methylated spirits, at least two applications rubbing vigourously!!

    I then apply appropriate coats of leather dye and finish of with a good clear leather polish after this its appropriate to use a colour if wished?

    I was just going to post how I treat leather for dyeing - but Tom beat me to it.

    The alcohol strips off anything that might prevent the dye from penetrating the surface of the leather, cleans it too.
