Some kilt makers put them in for hanging your kilt, If u mean what I think you do
The hielan' man he wears the kilt, even when it's snowin'; He kens na where the wind comes frae, But he kens fine where its goin'.
I use them for that myself, but I didn't think that it was their main purpose.
