Question Oh what a scary proposal

My wonderful, beloved, beautiful soon to be wife has made the following proposal to curb my spending of money on kilts...My latest addiction. She said that for every kilt that I buy, she buys, or anyone else buys for me I have to buy her a dress. Yes, I have already bought the dress for my first kilt...so it begins. The problem is I have a long list of tartan kilts I would love to have.

    5. Confederate Memorial (nothing political just a tip of the hat to my several confederate ancesters.)
    6. and last but not least a MacDonald (If I can figure out which is appropriate. My great grandmother was a MacDonald and I have to do the research which is why it is last on the list.

I was wondering if anyone else was in the same/similar boat or had a list of tartans they were jonesing for...Just for fun mind you.

This doesn't sound so bad. If I'm reading this right, is says that for every kilt she buys YOU, you have to buy her a dress. Given that most dresses cost alot less than kilts, you could be on to something good here.

I would love to buy my wife clothes, but most off the rack does not fit her properly and she has to exchange them. Is your betrothed talking about equal in cost or equal in number? I have bought plenty of ladies clothes that were much more inexpensive than a kilt. Does not sound too bad to me - unless she is talking = $.

    [free advice]
That's a very fast way to wind up broke and in big debt as you start a marriage. One of my cousins had a similar arrangement with his wife: for every hour he spent hunting, fishing, going to the races or other "boy" stuff, she got to have equal time doing "girl" stuff. The agreement applied to their finances, as well. It ended up in a mess. A bad mess.

How about this compromise: for every dollar you spend on kilt stuff, you set aside an equal amount (or a percentage) for your house? [/free advice]

All this is contingent, of course, on your financial situation. If you've got the funds, buy as much tartan stuff as you can, wear it often, and enjoy the variety. And post pictures!

Perhaps she means that she wants a dress/skirt to match his kilts?

I know I want a tartan sash at the very least to match my hubby when we're out and about, but a skirt is preferable.

The whole point is to keep me from spending to much money. and yes she is talking about 1-1 not dollar amount. Since I don't have much to spend on kilts anyway it should keep me from going over board...I don't know if accessories are included in the deal.
The first dress she picked out was a tavern wenches outfit to wear to the games we attend. There are several dresses she has in mind and most of them are not terribly expensive.
    We'll see how it goes.

I can't buy clothes for my wife, but she says I have good taste in jewelery. Relating to kilts, she encouraged my to buy a Ferguson Britt sporran without looking at the price. She has since mentioned several times that she does not have a purse that cost as much. I tell her that I only have one sporran!

Seems like a fair trade. I have a similar deal with my wife.

I have had a similar deal with my husband-- I wanted a cat, he wanted a motorcycle and neither of us wanted the other, so I told him he could get a motorcycle If I could have a cat which he promptly agreed to and bought me a cat and never has bought himself a motorcycle

Other than that, we have another very successful financial deal, we each get a small amount of spending money per paycheck that isn't being used by family needs, and whatever we want must come out of our personal money. It works fantastically because there is never the feeling that one must ask permission from the other to buy something. I have found that there is nothing more degrading for an adult than having to ask for permission to buy something that they want (unless it's something that effects the entire family like a pet)--isn't that half of the fun of being an adult? That and being able to eat chocolate right before dinner is most of the reason I grew up!
