Kilts in the Olympic Opening Ceremony

With only a few hours to go I can now say that there will be kilts ( in a sense) in the Opening Ceremony for the 2010 Winter Games. I have had a preview of the event and all I can say is that it will be a good one.

The one thing i do not know about the Opening ceremony is who will light the cauldron - I do hope it is Terry Fox's mother. If it is Betty Fox to light the flame there will not be a dry eye across the country.

That would be nice, but I'm betting on the Great One!

I saw some tartan wrapped around some guys, but I'm not sure I'd have called them kilts. Maybe I missed them.

Yeah, and those weren't real trees in the ceremony either.

The best way to describe them, I guess, would be as evocative of kilts, at least on the men. They were simply cloth wrapped around the male dancers.

Looks like Macman was partially right! I'm not sure, though, if Gretsky got to actually light the cauldron, due to a possible malfunction of the stage setup.

He lit the outdoor cauldron, which is supposed to be visible to the whole city.

No, you saw it all. That was our Ashley to the fore, a wonder to behold perhaps but a talent 'way beyond the reckoning.

That's Gretzky with a zed We just call him "the Great One" in Canada.

It was Canadian Gold metal winner (and Scottish born) Catrina LeMay Doan whose arch did not work. She handled it well.
