			Do you have snow?

CNN has just reported that there is snow in all states of the US! I had heard a little earlier on ABC News all states except Hawaii have snow. What say ye, Rick?
I know the UK has also been experiencing one of their snowy & coldest winters. So do you have snow and how has this snowy winter affected you?

For me, I just finished 20 continuious days working on my day job. As a manager of a gated community of 'active adults', ie., have to be 55 or older to be able to live there, I'm responsible for the security guards and contract services. I've covered the gate when guards haven't been able to get in. I've supervised our snow removal contractor; getting our roads cleared, driveways and walkways.

On my second job, an associate in Walmart, I reported to work last Thursday evening to find the store closed to the public. The weight of the snow on the flat roof had cracked some of side support beams. Oh, yeah I got to work, stocking shelves and shop after my shift.

We have broken the historic record of total snow fallen in a winter season and have at least 4 weeks of winter left! The Fredericksburg Scottish Society had to re-schedule our Burns Night till later this month.
 I'm looking forward to it!

We got 30" last weekend and an additional 15" on Wednesday. I just heard a report suggesting we might get 6" more Monday night. I am hoping they don't have to reschedule again.

Here in Southern Scotland we have not had an exceptionally cold winter, but what has been unusual is the prolonged period of continuous cold weather which we have experienced throughout the past two months. Normally our winter cold spells each last around ten days, or two weeks at most and are usually interrupted by a few days of milder weather carried in from the Atlantic Gulf Stream, when we can experience rain and gales and the temperature can rise as high as 12 degrees centigrade (54 degrees fahrenheit) even in January, rapidly melting any lying snow and thawing any ice. For about a month from mid December till mid January the temperature was almost continuously below freezing, and since every precipitation was of snow rather than rain we had quite substantial accummulations. With the lengthening daylight and the sun getting higher in the sky in daytime, temperatures have slowly been recovering over the past four weeks, rising to up to 5 c (41 f) by day and falling below freezing overnight. Most of the snow has gradually melted but there are still plenty of drifts to be seen in the north facing corries of our hillsides and some of the smaller lochs still have frozen surfaces.

Let me look out the window and double-check. . . nope, clean and dry here
Hope all you folks dealing with the unaccustomed levels of white stuff are doing OK! Sun Diego has suffered through some bitterly cold days (never getting out of the 60Fs!) but we are headed back to our normal 70s this coming week.

					Mael Coluim,
It snowed approximately 1.5 inches here last night and, in grand Piedmont tradition, half of the motor vehicle traffic crashed into the other half and everything government related closed down.

It snowed about six inches here last Monday, and we're expecting another round of the same this Sunday/Monday. Temps have been in the 20's F all week. I HATE cold weather.
