Also, Marc Jacobs does well in that outfit. I even like the 14-up docs.

If I were lucky enough to have been born gay - imagine never again putting up with a woman's ****... the bliss - I would be moist for marc. Objectively a very sexy man.

He does that kilt in a very "now" fashion and is to be applauded.

Not sure if you can really call it a kilt when the pleats are back to front, it has a slit in the "apron", and it includes a pair of longish shorts inside, so maybe we shouldn't be discussing it here on a Kilts forum, there are skirts for men fora elsewhere on the net where this would make a hot topic, but hey good luck to H & M for trying and hopefully I will have the opportunity to buy one of these skorts and wear it occasionally as an alternative to a traditional kilt or traditional shorts.

We can all still agree that kilts are just a specific style of skirt, yeah?

Why does that style of skirt scream "masculine" where others' skirt designs scream "feminine"?????

    Honestly, why?
Kilt_Like_Objects, the rules clearly state this forum is for civil discussion about kilts. This thread exists because H&M is marketing these garments as "kilts" and I started it to discuss them. While some members are rather vehement in their negativity towards Marc Jacobs' designs, that is relative to the purpose of this forum.

Discussions about skirts and cross-dressing surely have a home on another website, but not here. If you so "honestly" desire to question issues of gender, instead of begging questions, you should go read some Judith Butler. Nietzsche won't be much help.

no, I'm certainly not trying to discuss gender or to ask "what is a kilt?"

I simply want to understand the necessity of the ridicule of anything that doesn't fit into a "kilt box".

No need to lock, just a curiosity.

Why do people need to deride anything other than a traditional kilt in order to justify their own skirt-wearing?

Fair point, some of the worst critics of any modern variation of the traditional kilt are the wearers of traditional kilts, I've been hassled at a highland games by two drunken kilties, one of whom insisted I must be gay because I was wearing a black kilt.
I often wonder why this should be so, a kilt is simply a form of skirt, it happens to be a particularly comfortable, practicable and sensible style of skirt for a man to wear because of the freedom of movement it offers and the health benefits from the airflow which it provides.
I won't deride H & M's creation, but if I do wear one I would regard it as fashionable shorts or a skort, rather than as a kilt.

    That's all I'm saying.

I'm not gay just because it's not tartan.

Ok as one of the "people" out there, I do not have to justify anything to any one on matters of what I wear. I exercise my freedom to wear what I happen to like and not wear what I don't like. Now, if that means that some "modern styles" of clothing don't get worn by me, all that is being said is that I don't like it and I will wear what I do happen to like, whatever that may be. Now that could equally apply to any style and any age of clothing. As a matter of a fact I have been known to pass an unflattering comment or two on flat caps and white hose when related to the kilt. If an opinion is asked for, as I believe it was here, then an opinion has been given. No more, no less and on my part there is no hidden agenda with coded and subtle meanings woven into what I say and finally, ridicule does not even enter into my equation.

I fully agree with KLO's remarks. I, too, often feel irritated by the screaming that goes on here : "I'm NOT GAY!" (Who cares?)

I love Scottish kilts and have never felt more feminine or more masculine because I have a lot of rather unnecessary pleats and bright colours around my backside.

Have you noticed, too, whenever a woman is mentioned, the writer feels obliged to say how "lovely" she is? Undoubtefly to compensate for the fact that he is fascinated by the kilts being worn by other men. KLO is, as far as I remember, the only one that has had the courage to say that another man looks "sexy".

Let's not get into the subject of freedom of speech. I wonder how soon KLO's threads will be closed down.

Kilt on, Ian -- and skirt on, too. Why not?

I have to confess that never once in my life has it ever occured to me to consider that men can look sexy. I rather suspect that I never will. A fair point though.
