Got a problem....

So I have been socking away my money for a while, and finally talked my family into the idea of me getting a kilt, couldn't afford a really nice one just yet, so I went with a Black Watch 6 yarder from Tartanista on Ebay, I also got a cream ghillie shirt and cream hose, with matching accessories, for a total of about $200, not to mention my basket-hilt backsword. I also converted some wingtips into brogues by hand( and thread) and made my own laces and tassels to cut the costs.
Problem is, I have been reading on here now for a couple of days, and it seems like most guys abhor seeing people wearing cream hose and ghillie shirts..........is there something wrong with them, should I refund my stuff, or is this just one of those things where people are violently preferential??
I am more than happy with the outfit, but if I am going to look like a fool with the current scheme then I want to change it if possible......

You'll be alright with the cream duds. Some of us like light-colored hose; others prefer darker or brighter colors. The ghillie shirt is good for Games and such. Go ahead and wear them, and you might discover that you soon "need" some other accessories, too.

Yeah, sure. Wear them like David says. I wouldn't go to a Burns Supper or Tartan Ball in either, but I don't think you're speaking of that. I used to have a ghillie shirt that I wore on Sundays to the games (it was a little more laid back on Sundays), and I had a friend from Aberdeen who wore one, too. I liked it; it was all cotton, so it was very comfortable.

For anything else, you can always change the shirt, you know, add a collar and tie or a sweater.

Scot, you are getting into the kilt and that's the main thing, Everybody has to start somewhere with what they are going to wear with it, so be proud and wear the kilt with what you want and can afford. As time goes by you maybe able to save a bit and get other accessories. All of us had to start somewhere and probably didn't have the exact right look. As has been said before, we are not part of the military so there are no absolute rules on how you have to wear a kilt. Be proud in wearing it and that's all anyone can ask

The problem with the white socks is that they look like they come from a rental shop. Colored hose look so much better than white ones. My Colorado state tartan kilt looks good with white hose, but spectacular with forest green or red. Colored hose bring out the beauty of the tartan.

Well in Ron's case he pretty much owns a rental shop, so I see what you mean.......lol

oh, and I got the ghillie shirt because my family is doing a conference thing in March, in celebration of Patrick Henry's Liberty or Death speech, and as all the attendees are invited to dress as a defender of liberty, I decided to honor my Scottish heritage(Rolfes and Craigs) and also play the part at the same time. Twas a good excuse to talk the parents into finally letting me purchase the kilt, and now that I have it my boss at work says I can wear it to work on April 6th!!!!
