Royal Visit to the USA
"It has been officially announced that HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, will be attending this year's Greenville, South Carolina, Highland Games on May 28 and May 29. The Greenville Highland Games is an active supporter of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, of which His Royal Highness is chairman. While in Greenville Prince Edward will present the Duke of Edinburgh Awards to a number of young people who have qualified for the Bronze Award."
It's not the Braemar Gathering, but then again when was the last time you went to a Highland Games in North America where a member of the Royal family was present?

Who?!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

More from the internet:
local news article:
Greenville to get visit from Britain's Prince Edward | greenvilleonline.com | The Greenville News
& from the official games website:
"The 2010 Bonnie Lad and Lassie Pageant will be an experience your child will never forget. Your child will stand onstage with HRH Prince Edward, Queen Elizabeth's youngest son, and perform for him! Prince Edward is the father of two small children, and we are told he is particularly interested in our Games' focus on teaching children about the Scottish heritage of the Upstate. We are the only children's Scottish Heritage Pageant as far as we can determine, and we offer a real live Prince to boot!"

Good point, Jock. Prince Edward does wear the kilt in the Highlands, but it is extremely rare for a member of the Royal Family to wear the kilt outside of Scotland...let alone in the Colonies!
It certainly is not a problem for Prince William of Wales to wear a suit at the Braemar Gathering. I don't like it, but the precedent has been set.

Wow, a Royal, at a highland games, in the USA, in the Southern USA... I have no idea what the protocol is for that, but I would be most interested to hear what Edward does wear while attending. He's not exactly known for his daring or whatever but this might be a chance for him to break out of the box...
PS: is it only me that has to enter my username and password about 3 times to make an entry these days? It's getting old.

I hear ya, but it's sometimes interesting to see what they'll do next, and also they provide an income to a whole cadre of British journalists who might otherwise be unemployable We love those Fleet Street guys here in Canada because when they come they us everything we're doing wrong, in minute detail. And how else are we to better ourselves? Anyway I do want to hear about Edward in a kilt and am hoping it'll happen.
