Iona jacket

In as much as MacKenzie Frain makes made-to-measure jackets, I assume it wouldn't be too difficult for them to do a more rounded, sporran cut-away bottom to the jacket. I imagine it would look good and I'd like to see it, perhaps with some metal buttons too.

It's very boxy, and not at all flattering to the shape of a man, especially if kilted. Kilt jackets are nipped in at the waist which not only gives them a slight flair as they pass over the top of the kilt, it also makes the wearer appear slimmer, and slightly longer in the body. Both features enhance, rather than detract from, the male shape. This jacket, especially if the wearier is husky (or out right chubby), will pull open as it approaches the waist and will not only make the wearer look fatter, it will also add to the impression that he is shorter than he actually is. In other words, it will give the wearer the look of a bale of hay in a kilt and jacket.

Oddern, the Bunad jacket you write of is very nice and looks to me like it is cut high enough for kilt wear. Similar to the Iona but a bit more formal with the metal buttons and flat lapel/cadet collar combination. Have you ever tried one with a kilt?

No I haven't tried the combination Bunad jacket and Kilt. I do not own a Bunad, but I realy want to have one. The problem is that they are very expensive about 1800£ or 2700$.

I agree. This jacket would need some tailoring to work well, but it could all be done. With some rounding and shaping, plus a fabric that will hang better, it could work. I'm not sure I would wear it, but it could look be made to be quite presentable with some effort.

I was looking through some vintage clothing stores today and found not one, but TWO Bunad jackets! Both less than $100 CAD... Oddern, you could probably get a return flight to Toronto for cheaper than buying a new Bunad, so maybe you should be shopping in our Kensington market area
