Palestinian bagpipers

AFAIK, the Palestinian Scouts are all Christians, which makes them a small minority, and most of those shown in the slideshow appear to be Catholic, which AFAIK is not as large a denomination within that minority as either Greek or Russian Orthodox. Not meant as a criticism. All power to them.

Ironically, the pipes are said to originate in the Middle East, and yet those played there today appear to be mostly of the Scottish variety. What goes around comes around, as they say in these parts.

Whilst watching several documentaries on Palestine I saw many clips of various events where Palestinians played bagpipes, such as the youngster at Christmas. Some of them sound horribly out-of-tune, but it really emphasised their painful situation.

Bagpipes are the national instrument for Jordan, as well. And despite what you may have seen on YouTube, there are some fantastic pipers coming out of the Middle East.
