It's been a long strange ride so far and I'm not even halfway home yet.

    CMcG,

I think the Chinese jacket has great potential- it is inexpensive, easy to alter, if necessary, and has a good collar. You can get them on eBay for little money and they are not too heavy. They also come in a variety of colors.

Check out this Sheriffmuir from Slaters. Plain cuffs, no epaulettes, plain buttons, kilt cut, a very modern take on the traditional doublet:
    - Justitia et fortitudo invincibilia sunt
    - An t'arm breac dearg

The doublet is perfect for a kirk minister; a little too austere for anyone else.

A little less austere with some nice shiny buttons perhaps?

To me, it still needs argyll cuffs, then I think you could have black buttons.
