Kilted on St. Paddy's

so i drew a short straw, and ended up getting an assignment today, i'm a temp. i had flirted with the idea of wearing my kilt today a) just because, b) it's st. patrick's, and i could most probably get away with it, and c) i haven't worn it on any assignment yet. i waffled about kilting to work, especially since i don't know anything about the company's dress code, but as one of my directors said, it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. also, my girlfriend, my mother and my aunt gave me the ol' "what's the matter colonel sanders, chicken?" routine, so i couldn't say no.

the only thing that anyone has said about it was a guy on the street on the way in. he may or may not have been irish, i couldn't tell if he had an accent or not. he said "it's st. patrick's day, not st. andrew's." i just nodded and kept walking. i wanted to say, "no, it's wednesday," but upon reflection, any authority this guy may have had on the matter was undermined by his neon green plastic hat, so i let it go.

i kinda thought that kilting up today would be a show of solidarity with my celtic cousins, but this guy seemed a little put off by it. he didn't get to me at all, but it got me thinking whether or not it was a faux pas, not being irish, to kilt up it at a (supposedly) irish event. personally, i think it's much better than wearing green plastic and puking on 5th avenue. any thoughts?

oh, and irish or not, happy st. patrick's!

I wear a kilt daily regardless, so it's nothing new fr me. What is unusual is that I wear the tackiest St. Paddy's Day shirt I can find. This year, it's a neon green shirt with a tuxedo print on it. It's terrible! I love it. I wore it with my saffron kilt, black hose, and St. Patrick flashes from Sport Kilt. It's great.

I dunno...I always thought that it was a nice thing to do...show of solidarity and all. There's always one sphincter out there who'll give you a hard time...fageddaboudit.

I'm putting on the kilt and heading for the local supermarket in a couple of minutes...it'll be full of old guys wearing Notre Dame sweatshirts...so I'll be overedressed!

I don't normally wear my kilt to work, but I'm wearing my Irish National tartan kilt today along with tartan hose a green shirt and jacket. Everyone I've seen has wished me a Happy St. Patrick's Day upon seeing the ensemble. It's so green, I guess it's unmistakable.

Due to a change of management in my department (actually, a change of departments, but that's another story), my manager gave me an okay to wear the kilt to the office today.

As when I wore it last year, everybody (except my immediate supervisor-but that's part of another story) appreciated it.

I went out to catch a brief part of the big parade on my lunch hour, and got some smiles, but got barely noticed. I did see about six different men, though, who weren't pipers wearing kilts, mostly Irish National. I myself wore my heavy SWK green. Great for the gorgeous weather we are having today!

Now to do some celebrating this evening!

Well that's just silly. JolyStNick and I were just at lunch, and I commented to him that if people can dress like Americans and like idiots for St. Patrick's Day, we can certainly dress like Scots.

I'm kilted today.

My only "Irish" tartan is Co. Roscommon from Marton Mills.

I wore it into town to pick up some fabric from the Post Office.

I got a "Love the outfit dude" and an "are you Irish?"

It's kingussie pleated
