There were 140 pipers in the massed (mashed) bands.

Note no white kilt hose for these pipers!

They brought the bands onto the field in two groups. Someone thoughtfully separated the bands so that those with white hose were all grouped together. It was a roughly 50/50 split. The local bands have all gone to dark hose.

In this picture you can identify, from left to right, a few members of the Phoenix Pipe Band (red MacGregor). the Glendale Police Band (Black Watch), and the Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band on the right.
