This is what I wear at work. No place for kilts where I earn my crust unfortunately.

    Trying again

Tartan Day 2009 hand sewn Leatherneck tartan with replica RAF Mechanic's vest

Tartan Day 2008 USA Kilts semi-trad in Loud MacLeod

St. Andrew's Day 2009 Handsewn Macdonald of Kingsburgh with same replica RAF Mechanic's vest

Same Macdonald of Kingsburgh, different day with argyle jacket.

Doing group in summer. USA Kilts casual in MacLean Hunting.

    Weathered Gordon from Celtic Croft

Probably not the choice for Tartan Day but a great kilt for office wear. Freedom Kilts dress model in maroon with Pendleton vest.

Another solid color kilt look. Utilikilts olive Mocker with (gag - gasp!) tartan necktie.

Wore this to work last week for St. Patrick's Day. RKilts green leather with replica Boston Shamrock's jersey from Ebbets field flannels

Enough. I work as a counselor at a community mental health center in a very rural area of Arizona. Normal dress for most staff is jeans casual so when I go to work kilted I'm dressing up.

My standard attire would be khakis, leather shoes (always), and polo or dress shirt--unless I am going to court, and then it's a suit and dress shoes.

WFor tartan day I'll probably wear my Weathered Robertson, the recently purchased pig skin sporran, and my new red hose. (If it's too hot, the new hose will have to stay home.) I'll also wear a khaki shirt or polo shirt or something similar.

This is an older photos of the outfit; you can tell I really like it since i wear it so often in warm weather.

I usually wear a regimental tam instead of the glengarry, but my wife likes the glen, so I wear it if she's around.

I wouldn't even think about wearing the kilt here. I teach high school choirs.
I have to tell you, David, that I used to teach in an alternative high school with some tough kids, and once they got over the initial shock of my kilt, they all liked it. It created a lot of "teaching moments."

If it works in an alternative school, it might be OK in the choir room, too.

I teach (and was long an administrator) at a large university, where I can get away with wearing just about anything. I've worn a kilt - much as I've worn trousers or jeans - with scrunched socks and workboots, and with jacket and tie. I've worn t-shirts with provocative slogans, and a unique outfit (trousers, shirt, jacket) created for me by a local designer. I even taught a class on drag and gender performance wearing a bright red crinoline and 4" heels. That is, while I can be very low key (really, I can!) I often dress to 'suit' the occasion, and the subject at hand. (And yes, I have occasionally had to deal with complaints, but generally the students respond really well.) This fall I get to teach an entire course on Macbeth and its various cultural adaptations...

It's not the students. It's a certain somebody who likes to make decisions for everybody else in the building.
