Adding kilt bows/rosettes?

It is possible to purchase Rosettes from the Museum Store on the Black Watch web site.

More info please. Been all through the Black Watch Museum store site and not a hint of rosettes. No search feature but have been through all the catagories.

Got my hopes up there. Can you provide a more exact location?

Okay went back and hacked around...there is a search engine on the shop front and the rosettes are on page 2 of the Clothing/Hats section. They look a bow to me rather than what I think of as a rosette and they must be top quality since they are 19.45 Pounds for a set of two.

Yes those are the things, shaped like bows but called "rosettes" by the regiment, which have been worn for many years by Officers and Sergeants of the Black Watch. They're grass-green ribbon. The same colour is used as the top binding of all Scottish military kilts regardless of tartan:

So, does anyone know if they have to be sewn on, or do they come with some sort of a pin on backing?

Good question... I have no idea.

The ones I made back c1980 were shaped like the Black Watch regimental ones, but probably made completely differently, as I didn't have an actual example to copy, and had to make it up as I went.

What I did was to sew the bows down to a piece of backing felt. The entire unit could then simply be pinned onto the kilt and removed when the kilt was to be dry cleaned.

You've dry cleaned a kilt?! Wow, you are a brave soul.

By the way, my 1930's Lawrie Highland Dress catalogue lists rosettes along with their kilts, implying that they were not a rarity at that time. They're made of silk tartan.
