Canadian tartans

NOt a Canadian but I do love my Tewksbury tank in 16oz F&K Maple Leaf.

I think that many of the canadian provincial tartans are extremely beautiful and unique. Is it me or is there a significant number of asymmetric tartans in the canadian collection?

And perhaps I don't understand what an asymmetric tartan is but, of the official tartans, only New Brunswick looks asymmetric to me?
