    Jocking my Black Watch bonnet

Redshank had sent me a Black Watch bonnet made by Mackie. I’ve put it through a thorough jocking!

    Before

    After

I had to improvise living in suburbia. Used a bucket instead of Highland brook, dripped in the shower stall instead of tree branch in the glen, but I am pleased with the results!

Much better Ern. The before pic has you looking like a Greek Orthodox priest.

    I wonder...

...if Mackie left out the lining material in his bonnets, would they need as much Jocking to make them head-ready? Hmmm...

I don't know the answer for sure, I can hazard a guess though and say, yes I think it would. The lining adds to the strength and durability of the bonnet for sure, but actually, it is loose inside and is made of looser and more malleable cloth. The outer wool is the bit that needs to obtain the "memory" and that is what "Jocking" is really all about.

Mackie's do leave the lining material out of some of their bonnets, these are called Beret/Tams, they are less likely to need a good ole jocking, but it would help to set the shape and style you choose

I got my grandson a Blue Bonnet like Mael Coluim's, and after a good jocking, it looked as good as his.

As soon as I can run his little two-year-old butt down for a minute and get a pciture of him in the bonnet, I'll post it.

Thanks, Redshank. I'll be in touch.

I wonder how much workspace Mackie needs to make this bonnet?
You guys will give David the big head if you keep it up.

    Oops, too late.

I was inspired by this thread. With the help of Redshank aka Elf Christopher. I am now waiting for the dust cloud to lift so that my new Mackie bonnet can be on it's way to me.
