Tweed Bonnet Review
New Englander had previously posted on a tweed bonnet he had ordered on Ebay from Mossie Croft. Succumbing to my hat fetish, I ordered one. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. It was made to my exact head measurement so the fit is perfect. You have a choice of torrie colors or without one. I went for matching. There will be no jocking of this beaut.

Ern my old friend, I am not sure about the bonnet, think it may be the black ribbon that puts me off, just my personal opinion, but you do wear it well.

I really like that bonnet. Never seen anything like it.
It means that someone could get a Balmoral and kilt jacket (and kilt even) exactly matching, "cut from the same cloth".
But for me, there's something old and genuine about the traditional Balmorals which are knit and shaped, which a Balmoral made out of pieces of flat cloth can't quite replace. That one you have is, though, by far the nicest such Balmoral I've ever seen. They got the shape exactly right.

It's probably just my poor tying of the ribbon into a bow!

Thanks very much for putting the pics up, Ern! The bonnet looks great on you. Mine is my first and I'll be able to take hints from you when I wear it. For what it's worth, I ordered mine with neither tourie nor ribbons.

Had mine from Mossie Croft for a bit over a year, also purchased off ebay, and love it. Looks great with my charcoal tweed daycoat and vest, or worn alone or with a charcoal overcoat in the winter. As it is pieced together rather than having the crown made from a single felted wool piece it is more of a hybrid between a tam and a Balmoral, but either way looks great on you. And I think on me too:

Hi from an italian enthusiast of the celtic culture and history (mainly irish)!
My tam o'shanter is not made by tweed, but is also a Mossie Croft realization.
Laurie made for me a very good job: a repro of the tam worn by the terrible Auxiliaries of the police (often named "Black and Tans") in the irish independence war of the 20s, as you can see on some movies ("The wind that shakes the barley", "Michael Collins").
Rifle green colour, badge and red flash have been copied from an original one.
