Accidental encounter
Last weekend, a lady friend and I spent the afternoon at the Memphis Zoo. Mine was the only kilt in evidence. Got a few stares; but any comments made were all positive.
To the point of this post... after leaving the zoo, we were driving around killing some time until we were to meet some friends of hers to go out to eat. We heard some interesting sounds and had to track them down. About a block off the V&E Greenline, standing atop a grassy knoll, we found a lass playing her bagpipes and practicing her marching steps. Just had to stop and grab a picture (with her permission of course). She had recently moved to Memphis from Arkansas where she had played with a pipe band. North (something) Caledonia (something).... my memory isn't what it used to be.

"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.

That's a nice story.
And I see that they grow better looking pipers in Arkansas than some places as well.

I believe this is her from the 2008 Celtic Fest in Jackson TN. She was with the Northeast Arkansas Caledonians but wasn't with them last year.
