Be careful about putting things in the pockets. The Original's not so bad but what goes into to pockets of the mockers are best retrieved years later when you need something that you haven't seen for a long time and can't for the life of you figure out why things turn up missing after you've worn that mocker.
I have a closet full of Utilikilts, right along side others SWK, Sportkilt, etc.
UK's are excellent.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

thanks for all the replies and opinions ... My only afterthought was people might look at me and think "goth" ... But it is comfortable, and if I really cared what other people thought i'd still be wearing pants

I like mine, a black Workman, and don't let anyone try to convince you no one in Scotland would ever wear a Utilikilt! I bought mine here in Edinburgh and know a guy at the shop wears them, as well as a stage hand at the theatre near our flat. I don't know what the response would be in the Highlands, but here in Edinburgh no one seems to mind.

I picked up a Survivor off EBay and wore it a couple times around the house. I am glad I did, because I found out I am more "traditional" thinking. I say to each, their own.

No the great thing about kilts is: you can look at the Goths and punks and think "Conformists!"

If you are worried about appearing "Goth" just purchase a few more UK's in different colors!
I have to agree with the comment about the pockets on the Mockers - they are quite cavernous.

Goth is as goth looks
My only kilt (so far...) is a black workmans that I won in a Utilikilts contest. You'll only be taken for goth if you have glue holding up your purple hair, and enough piercings to set of a metal detector.

Mocker Pockets
The total has changed a few times, but at most recent reckoning the Mocker Pockets have have gobbled down 79 smaller items and a dinghy with custom fitted oarlocks.

There are two BIC lighters, one disposable camera, a set of keys on four rings attached to a carabiner, one pair of socks, a cellphone, three pencils with removeable erasers, five ballpoint pens, a stocking cap, two lefts and one right hand glove, sunglasses, ipod (3gb), flashdrive 80mb, headset for ipod, 3x5 notepad, thermos stopper, tv remote, garage door remote, skate key (really. the kids were playing with my childhood skates from 1958. They still have them on 'cause I can't find the skate key!?!?!? ). Various bolts and washers are rattling around in there and two engagement rings! DON'T ASK. A pair of shoelaces and a copper arrowhead. Many more things are to be found in my mockers pockets, but I shudder to think of the consequences of finally bringing everything back from the abyss.
It's not true about, "Kilt only when formal." I don't have formal Kilt attire. I just try to upgrade my best appearance.
As for comparison. Well, It's a good question with a lot of good answers!
Which eye does one favor when looking through binoculars.
I use the other "Good eye"

what's the rabble's opinion on utility kilts?
I wouldn't give utilikilt a dime after the way they treat customers and their attitude about (lack of) quality. Buy an RKilt, no one ever has trouble with their quality and service!

I have 2 Orginals, Black and Green, and they both wear like iron. While wearing one or the other, I have done housework, mowed the lawn, gone camping, hiking, movies, etc. When they get dirty, in to the wash, no dryer, hang to dry. Try to avoid anything that will stain (oil, grease, etc.)
My wife refers to them as my "jeans".
