I just looked out my bathroom window as I was getting ready for work and I saw my lawn covered with dandelions. Last Spring this might have bothered me. As an X Marks member, I just smiled.

Tis a beautiful sight isn't it? My wife wants me to mow the lawn, she just doesn't like kilts.

I mowed off most of the dandelions in the front yard last weekend.

But it's okay - they grew back. And they might have spread to the neighbor's, as well.

I managed to remove all the dandelions from the gardens here as they are ideal food for psittacine birds, the seed heads in particular make ideal food for the chicks. It has taken many years for the plants to recolonise - there are just a few pioneers, but without the constant harvesting of leaves and seeds I suspect that they will make a rapid bid for expansion into their former haunts.

At least they are more cheerful than Bellis perennis, though not so useful as a remedial herb.

I have to tell you that since XMarks adopted the dendelion, I have noticed how very lovely they are growing along the road and in fields. We went for a drive int he country a couple weeks back, and there were places where an entire field was full of dandelions, and ther were really pretty.

Kind of gives one pause to stop and smell the. . . dandelions.

Well, kind of.

Sneaky little devils, aren't they...

I did consider planting English daisies earlier this year, then decided to stick to desert wild flowers; though I did plant some purple mums by my rose bush.

I'm afraid I have no dandelions, only prickly lettus and sow-thistles.
