I find that the original simple formula works for me, but then I am sewing my own, so I just need to go to the cupboard and pull out material until I find something suitable in a long enough length, because naturally the stash enhancing formula of removal of one requires two to replace comes into force at once.

Does anyone else think about ordering your next kilt the minute you receive the last one you ordered? ...or is it just me?

Actually, before the last kilt arrives I have of late already been ordering the next, since the wait times can be so long. This way you always have at least one or more kilts in the pipeleine, and the jones high can be maintained at a much higher yet smoother and more continuous level indefinitely.

Right now I am down to 1 kilt jonesing, but fabric for two more waiting to be sent off, although this time two months ago I had 4 kilts on simultaneous jones.

Intervening jones may be maintained by ordering tartan material to be made up into kilts by your favorite kiltmaker, thus achieving the two for one jones---waiting for the tartan, then waiting again for the final product kilt. Quite a satisfying and longlasting high indeed.

Then, unexpectedly, right in the middle of all this well orchestrated jonesing, Keltoi throws in a monkey wrench, and make his 25% off Royal tartan kilts sale. Not that I particulalry ever really wanted any of the Stewarts, but they are now looking mighty fine, and have become a distinct potential. Bad boy John. Gets us hooked, then just as we start to get clean drops a bomb of a sale on us to reel us back into the addiction.

People - this man need help - it could be too late to restore him completely, though perhaps with intensive therapy he might be brought back from the brink, however, I think this should be marked for immediate action.

I think Ron's original equation is right. You people and your "New Math" have clouded the issue, which really should include how many pairs of handknit hose you need. Now THAT'S an equation

Actually, the K = n+1 is a simple axiom, i.e., it is so obvious it requires no proof. Kind of like "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line."

However, we might want to dutchy kilted's suggestion and rewrite it as:

lim n + 1 = ∞
n→∞

I thought this was a great means of calculating the number of kilts I should have, but my wife did not agree. She suggested the "+" should be changed to a "-" until K equals 1!!!

I wonder if this formula could be used for her shoes?

I suspect not. I have noticed in my own research that the formulae for kilts required in nothing like the formulae for shoe required.

Ks = Number of pairs of shoes required, and
Kx= number of kilts you can afford, and
K $ = Number of pairs she can afford + number of kilts you can afford, then
K s = K$ + Kx
