A US Tartan
All the talk about state Tartans got me to thinking about a US Tartan. Inspired by the Kilt with the saltire I came up with a red white and blue tartan which would show 13 red and white stripes to the rear.
The 'stars' on the blue patches on the Apron are representative and are shaped as 'x' because of the limitations of MS 'paint'. That's also the reason that the kilt is in 3 bits.
Hope our transatlantic cousins don't mind ideas from across the pond.

He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

By cutting out some of the full 8 yards I think I can post a better picture:

Errr...not sure what to make of this, but it certainly puts a new wrinkle in the phrase "wrapping yourself in the flag."

I kinda like it.
Don't know if I would wear it, but I would like to see one in person.
Thanks for posting

There's already the US Bicentenniel/ St. Andrew's Society Tartan, for those who are interested. IMHO it's pretty tasteful for a sett composed of bright red, bright blue, white, and black. Here's a photo of my 4-yd box-pleat kilt, created by Matt Newsome. I also have 4yds of this HW tartan available, if anyone else wants to have a kilt made.

I think I prefer the American Heritage tartan from USA kilts. A little more subdued.

An interesting idea, but way too much white for my tastes. I prefer the American National tartan made by House of Edgar.

It would be too much white for my taste too, but it can't really be avoided if one is going for the red and white stripe effect.

I like it. I'd like it even better if the front apron were woven to be just blue with the white stars, and not include any red.

This is my uncle piping near the high water mark of Pickets charge on Gettysburg battlefield.
He is wearing the American tartan.
