American source for a kilt jacket?

I haven't checked their prices lately, but what about USAKilts and the Scottish Tartan Museum? You know that you'll get quality product from either one.
There's also the British Shop (relatively new sponsor) - less selection than Rocky or Matt, but the last time I looked Ian's prices were fairly close.
I have a kilt suit from the Museum and an Argyll w/waistcoat from the British Shop, so I can personally recommend either one.

I got my Argyle Jacket and waistcoat from John they were very easy to work with. He kept sending me jackets until we got the correct size. Once that was done he made my jacket to order. Hope this helps/

Monday, I received my Argyll from Rocky at USA Kilts. It fits perfectly!!! I already had a vest from him, so the set is complete.

Although this jacket was on sale (see USAkilts's site), it still was a bit expensive. But, I had the piece of mind knowing that it was of a high quality, it was in stock, and it arrived in just three days. If you get a deal on something from Scotland, be prepared for a possible duty tax, and a three week, or more, wait. Now that air service has been suspended over Scotland, again, things will be awhile in coming!

I looked up Orvis and all I found was a site with a lot of...hiking gear? ...Was I in the correct place?

About modifying an existing "Saxon" blazer/sportcoat/suitcoat into a kilt jacket, it's best if you can find one with the lower pockets which are flapless patch pockets. Sometimes these can be removed quite cleanly. Sometimes, though, the sewing process has ruined the underlying fabric.

There's enough fabric left over from trimming the bottom of the jacket to make epaulettes, cuffs, and pocket flaps if you're so inclined.

I've been looking at old tweed ordinary jackets on Ebay and at thrift stores and I've noticed that there are two different ways of placing the pockets. Most have the pockets placed rather forward and low, making it impossible to create a decent-looking kilt jacket. But some have the pockets placed higher and further back, almost to the side. These could be made into acceptable kilt jackets without having to remove the pockets.

There was recently a company in the Seattle area who was an ex-hire company the owner was wishing to retire. I was able to gear up both kids with kilts, jackets and sporrans, ties, shirts, and for me a jacket, waistcoat and shirt, and tie for under 400 bucks, for all of it, shipped. The name escapes me for now, but there should be some comment or link about it on here somewhere. If not send me a pm and I will try and find it again.

Just my .02 worth but vmac3205 can fix you up with an awesome tweed kilt jacket for a great price. Give her a holler if your wanting something else, she can probably come up with it!
