Kilted Golf Tournament

Ok, so I'm playing in a golf tournament next week and am planning to go kilted. Is there any advice anyone could give me concerning playing in a kilt? I have never played kilted and not concerned about perceptions of other people as much as I am worried about actually being able to play as if I was split legged britched. Belt, sporran, do I tuck in my golf shirt, type of hose, etc? Any and all advice appreciated. Hope all yall are doing well.

I've only golfed kilted once. I'd happily do it again, just don't golf much...

For me, I dressed as I normally would. Only difference was I took off the sporran for play and attached it to my golf bag. Could've left it turned to the side, but it was getting on my nerves.

I have golfed kilted several times. I recommend a kilt belt with a relatively low profile buckle, and I personally do not wear my sporran while golfing. I instead use a smal belt pouch that I place over my left hip slightly to the back, so it is completely out of the way when I swing (I am a right hander). I keep tees, a few bucks, xtra balls, etc.. in it, and put the rest of my stuff in the golf bag pockets. I switch back to a sporran when I drop my clubs off back at the car and either go in for refreshments post round or to drive home.

Tuck in your shirt (demonstrates respect for the game, the kilt, and the course and you will look better). I used standard kilt hose as long as they fit well into my shoes---I would avoid heavyweight handknit hose becasue they make my shoes fit too tight, and I get concerned about getting good hose dirty if I have to hit out of the mud or muck, or if the weather turns bad. Wear a decent weight kilt pin to help keep the apron from flying if there is a breeze. If there is a stiff wind stick to you breeches and leave the kilt at home, unless you can concentrate on a putt while your petticoats are flapping in the wind.

I have worn a kilt on about 5 golf outings. First outing I wore a kilt with a traditional fit and found it something I had to get used to (in regards to the waist). Outings since then I have opted for a casual fitted kilt, ie; fitted with the waist at the "jeans" waist, and found this much more accommodating. Additionally the casual kilt is made with PV fabric and much cooler.

Generally, same convention would apply for the course you may be playing, shirt with collar, tucked in and wear a belt. I did not wear a sporran to golf. My golf bag seems to have a hundred pockets so the extra storage is not needed.

And surprisingly, neither kilt helped improve my game.

Good advice so far, so I will only add to check with the club to make sure that a kilt is acceptable wear. Some clubs are strict on dress code, even some public courses.

Thanks yall, that was exactly what I needed, weather shouldn't be a factor, highs in the 80's F, I checked with the tournament and course dress codes no mention of kilts so I will go kilted. I will post pics asap

I was about to say, I wouldn't worry about the dress code, as many women wear skirts on the golf course, and they are not discriminated against for doing so. Even though we all here know that a kilt is NOT a skirt, to the legal eagles it would equilabrate and thus a man wearing a kilt could not be discriminated against either.
