Terry, thank you for your gentle hand. However, I believe I truly do understand the spirit of the thread, hence my extreme enjoyment of it. And I completely agree with your assessment of HRH's overall style. I think I got hung up on a couple of posts regarding starting a new trend of mixing leather colors based on HRH's practice of doing so. (I am too lazy to go back and read all of the posts to confirm that, but I think that is what I read). I don't care who the wearer is, with few exceptions, I don't think that is a good look. So, as you said, I will do as I would with anyone else and emulate, or find inspiration in, those things that I like and leave the rest. I thank you for your thoughtful feedback. Now, ON WITH THE PHOTOS ! :-)

Hmmm, yes a return to the pics would be good, but we do need to understand that whether it meets the fashion sense of other parts of the world or not, the wearing of black shoes with other colours of leathers is traditional in the Highlands. The Duke is not a leader in fashion; he is a superb follower of tradition with consistent touches of his own personal style.

Perhaps the as-yet unasked question is this:
Is it even possible to truly wear Traditional Highland Attire without emulating the style that is worn by Scots in the Highlands?
That is, perhaps when folks throughout the world "modify" Traditional Highland Attire to fit their own fashion sensibilities it ceases to be Traditional Highland Attire and becomes something else.
Cordially,
David

I believe that is Rex's well made point, exactly. "Tradition" is the historical constant root that is not open to "Fashion's" influence, but rather, the unchanging point where we all begin, and return to, when designing fashion.
Being of the blood, but not of the culture, I truly appreciate my friends of the Highlands participating and guiding me in my education. Thank you!

David, my answer is "no", but I think we might be better to exit this thread on the Duke of Rothesay and go to "What is Traditional Highland Dress" for further discussion. What say you and Brooke?

Rex,
Great suggestion. My apologies for a "mini-hijack". The discussion is continued here:
