My goodness! She can borrow my blackthorn stick to dance with anytime she wants!

Thanks for the links. The middle eastern dancing ladies actually learned/adapted their cane dances from the Traditional Scottish Cane dances they learned from soldiers in the Highland regiments stationed around the middle east in olden times.

The videos of the ladies do show a bit of a Fred Astaire, Bob Hope vaudeville flare that you won't find in true Traditional Scottish Cane dancing.

Well, no, nothing like that in a kilt! (I'm still sweating from looking at the video.) Although, as Ron pointed out, they do have the same original source, I think that trying to emulate that routine would lead to sever back pain for most of us.

I might want to clarify that I want a blackthorn cane for the Irish version of the Scottish Cane Dancing and not to dress in a belly dancer attire and do a Fred Astaire dance routine with a common walking cane...lol

Yikes! If I tried something like that I would wind up ::dead:: As it is, I spend three hours a week in therapy for my arthritic joints!

I would assume that it would be more like Stan and Ollie in "Bonnie Scotland".
