It's funny how grandmother's can get away with that sort of thing. My maternal grandmother wrangled wheels onto B-17s during the war (while her fiancee was off at Kassarine Pass through Anzio). Nobody messed with her.

It is not customary for us to wear poppies except in November, but recently the British Legion has begun marketing some quite discrete little pins that may be something for you to consider. Both are available online through the Legion's shop.

The Royal British Legion - The Poppy Shop
from The Poppy Appeal:
"Poppy Brooches: Bridal designer Yarwood-White has produced a new poppy brooch this year and the red satin ruche Poppy has been worn by Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole on The X Factor.
This pretty satin ribbon poppy has a dark velvet centre piece and pressed glass bead centre, and it would look equally at home on men’s evening wear or a lady's gown...."

If you don't mind donating some of your hard earned Dollars to the Royal British Legion you can buy a lapel badge from http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/sh...ge-431263.html. Its a private company but the profits go to RBL.
You could also get a Poppy wristband from the Royal British Legion Rider's Branch at http://www.rblr.co.uk/content/?page=support
Hope the Mods don't mind me doing a bit of advertising on behalf of this very worthy cause.

Thanks all for the lead on the poppy pin. I may very shortly have to purchase a few.

According to two friends who are ex-Royal Australian Navy, it is customary to wear a poppy on ANZAC Day. You also see a fair number at Memorial Day services in the US now.

Cajunscot, What is the flag on your Avatar? I saw it flying in Tennessee in a few places but nobody I asked could identify it.

You are, as usual, correct that Australians are wearing poppies on ANZAC day as well as Rememberance Day. Our ANZAC days are becoming bigger as the years pass with a lot more younger people joining in to honour lost relatives. Two other styles of lapel pins are sold by the RSL for ANZAC day, one being the rising sun emblem with a capital A centred, the other being a bronzed slouch hat
