Well, if he's happy then I can only wish him the best. But despite him saying otherwise, I'm sure a part of him will miss the land and title of his forefathers.

I am sure that Lord Lyon will have something to say about it. It is not automatic that the Baronial title belongs to the land. In England, it is not so easy to declaim one's title and you can't do it for your children. His son would still be Thomas Rattray, Younger of Rattray.
