    Hawick Scotland's Heritage Capital

Come and visit Scotland's Heritage Capital, Hawick in the Scottish Borders, 55 miles from Edinburgh and 53 miles from Dumfries.

New road sign at the entrance to the town. Free car parking. Visit Scotland are now open extended hours.

Climb to the top of the Motte, a twelfth century earthwork fortification.

Visit the Heritage Hub and explore your genealogy.

Come inside Drumlanrig's Tower, mediaeval stronghold of the Black Douglases

Dine on the glass floor above the water wheel in the old Tower Mill.

Shop in the old High Street with its many French baronial style buildings.

Visit the home of knitwear, where Hawick Sock Company produce their famous House of Cheviot kilt hose.

Come along, and maybe even take part in our Highland Games on 20th June.

Enjoy this stunning view of Ruberslaw from my guest room window.
Lots more to see and do around town and the neighbouring countryside, hiking in the rolling southern upland scenery, mediaeval castles, etc. etc.

Great compilation, Alex! Myself and laura will probably be heading down in a few weeks to see some bits and pieces. When we are set on a date I'll drop you an email incase you fancy a meet up.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Didn't someone recently mention that you should be heading up tourism?

I'm always eager to read your posts, but I like the pictures better! Thanks for posting them.
If you're ever in Lanark, I'd really appreciate a few shots of Lee Castle. Hopefully I'll get to visit with you sometime and we'll go together.
