A decade with the Argyll and Sutherland for myself before joining the reg. force with the armoured corps. I can honestly say that I never had a greater time or felt a stronger bond than I did with the Highlanders.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in on this, but I understand there is a distinction, albeit in name only, between Highland and Scottish units in the Canadian Forces. While in The Canadian Scottish (Princess Mary's) Regiment, I think I was told that we were not a Highland regiment (even though we were kilted and had a pipe band).

Since I am not Canadian, nor served in the Canadian armed forces (yet I have a very strong interest in Canadian Highland/Scottish regiments & a great respect for their fighting men & women), I can only repeat what I recently read somewhere, and if incorrect I hope one of our friends to the north will correct me.

I believe the answer to your question is because the majority of these units are Reserve units, and are at company strength at the most part.

This is what I remember running across this past Thursday or Friday, and while I suspected the reservist role of most of these units, I was surprised that they were only company strength.

To our Canadian friends: is this information correct?

    Best,

Ask and you shall receive Robert!

To be honest I'm missing 5 of the regiments. They are:

    The Lanark & Renfrew Scottish
    The New Brunswick Scottish
    The Perth Regiment
    The Pictou Highlanders
The Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders

I believe the most of these 5 were deactivated some while back, though I know that at least one (& I can't recall which) is now some sort of artillery unit.

I believe I have a WW1 era photo of the New Brunswick Scottish, I'll check my files tomorrow/ later in the day.

If anyone has a photo of a kilted uniformed member of one of the 5 missing units then please feel free to post it here. Thanks.

Robert, I decided on the ones I do have to only post modern (post-1999) photos, rather than one from say the WW1 era & one modern. I had too many Bellingham Games photos to weed through, and thus had to scratch my original idea. Anyhow, in this case I chose to try to stay away from pipers if possible & post dress uniforms (w/ kilt) of the enlisted troops or officers.
    I hope you enjoy

    Cheers!
