    Bored

So. I'm bored. Really. With no prospect of improvement. So, I sit here thinking how ironic life can be.

How did I get to be bored? Short story that. Thunderstorms. Yup, silly and amazing as it sounds. The root of my boredom is a storm. You see, I was on my way to LA, but a thunderstorm system caused a flight from Hfx to Newark to be canceled. Nothing to worry about they said, as we were going to Boston not Newark.

So, there we are in the plane, we pull away from the gate, and wait a sec, this isn't the runway! We sat for 2.5hrs on the tarmac waiting for Logan airport to open as the same thunderstorm system that hit Newark was running rampant in Boston. We eventually leave and make it to Boston, but I'm late for my flight to LA and got bumped from my nice aisle front of the plane seat for a window in the back. Very nice gentlemen in my row, but sound sleepers. And when you gotta p, not so good (and it's why I request aisle seats).

Almost done, stick with me. So, I make it to LAX. But, the whole reason for me being here for one, and only ONE day, is the computer that I checked, which is still in Boston. Sigh.

And there is sits. And here I am. Bored. However, thanks to this forum, I remain only slightly bored.

oh dear, modern travel is so much fun. One of the reasons that I never check my laptop (and why doesn't my Palm Pre keyboard have an exclamation point?)

Ouch! I learned THAT lesson a long time ago with dive gear. Anything that you NEED or REALLY want to have with you needs to be carried on. Baggage 'handling' is too unreliable for anything vital. Sorry to hear it happened to you too.

Hopefully the computer will arrive on the next flight!
I don't think I could ever be bored in LA though, so much to see and do.

People watching in LA is fun

I know it doesn't help you, but if I were stuck in LA/LAX, I have numerous friends (greaser-rockabilly & biker types) who would come relieve my boredom

    Best of luck with yours!

The people-watching at LAX *is* stellar.

And even better if you can get into the JetBlue terminal with the walk-up bar.
But nothing beats having people connections in unexpected-layover towns.

    Wow, you scared me !

I thought you were bored with life or something...

I have a good trick whilst travelling : I bring a book. I mean a good book... The kind of book the whole world could go on strike and stop turning for a week !

    Pure bliss.

    best,

Well, the computer arrived. I had to check it as it was too bulky for carry-on. It didn't arrive on the next flight as promised and that's why I was bored. I couldn't go shopping because I was expecting the box anytime, so I was 'working', on duty. Can't fault an airline because of thunderstorm delays, but seriously, why was one little box sitting at Logan for more than 24hrs?

It took 6 phone calls to baggage customer service, three of which took more time than needed because I couldn't understand the thick accent of the agents. I have to say, United has THE worst baggage customer service EVER.

Anyway, the computer is here, and I'm installing it right now. But, you say, how can I be installing while I'm posting here? I'm currently on a conference call with Hfx and 'working' disrupts my headset, typing doesn't.
