I am leaving Sunday June 13 to go to Newport RI and finalize preparations for the yacht that I am crewing on for the Newport Bermuda Race. I will be off XMTS until around July 4 since I am also crewing for the return trip.

If anyone is interested in following progress, go to http://www.bermudarace.com/OntheRace...9/Default.aspx after June 18 and click on Race tracking. Select SAILOR BANDIDO form the drop down list of boats and you should be able to see our position during the race.

Fair winds & flowing seas, and I'll splice the mainbrace with a proper dark & stormy (made with Goslings Black Seal) in your honour!

    Brian,

On your voyage may I suggest that you relay to your tactician that he should stay upwind of all other competitors.

This is due to my placing a HOODOO on your boat increasing its wind shadow to just over 60 nautical miles. Anyone downwind of you will find conditions of dead calm. They will all just sit there with their sails slatting against their masts and their slack sheets waving lazily in the roll as you cruise majestically by.

And always remember that is against the code of the sailor, and bad luck, to leave port without leaving women crying and waving on the dock.

Keep the weather gage. Never mind maneuvers, always go straight at 'em.

Hmmm...perhaps that last should be modified a bit. I assume you want your opponents to remain afloat!

Be careful out there... It can be a bit windy and a bit wavy.
