One of the big points that the student speakers emphasized at the ceremony was the incredible diversity of the student body at this particular high school, Jones College Prep in downtown Chicago. They look upon it as one of their strengths and spoke about how they all came from different and rather insular neighborhoods to this one central location and found acceptance and cameraderie there. I'm not one to get too sentimental about stuff like this but it is true and is really very inspiring in this city that has such a reputation for being segregated and politically gerrymandered.
Being the father of a total Gleek, I had hoped that they would all sing "Don't Stop Believin'" on the way out of the ceremony but the music department wasn't quite that hip.
But young Mike looked great and everybody celebrated themselves and had a great time....
...and so should we all.

...and send your thanks to Dr. Joseph Powers, Principal, Jones College Prep, Chicago...he's an example that all of those other Admins should look to.
