I picked other.
I don't think I've personally seen a pirate at a Highland games, but I do always notice what I call the "I own all this stuff, I'm gonna wear it" guys cruising around the field in their formal kit they drag out twice a year.
But I got past getting really worked up over the way other people might dress after high school.
You do see a lot of different "variations" of Highland attire at games, and I'm sure the worst of them are being worn by folks just as grimly determined that their versions are as correct as others think they are wrong.
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

I think I have to speak in defense of the Clan Young crowd here. At the least, you must admit they are a nice friendly bunch always willing to share their booze and space in their tent for anyone who wants to get out of the sun for a bit.
For those who haven't seen them, try to imagine The Road Warrior set in a future post-Apocalyptic Highlands. This mob will parade around waving a vast collection of oversize edged weapons and hoarsely shouting their battle cry

I hate to say this.....but its the eccetrics that make the Games fun, besides going for the pipers and the Games...
I have to say at the Texas Highland Games, a few of us XMarkers were commenting on the fact, you can almost always pick out the XMarks people, because of the way we dress...
Ok Ok... I do not care for the guy wearing the mini kilt.... I will live with the poofy shirts and sandals.. the sport socks with the flash worn at the knee, while the sock ends at he calf....the moccasin wearing wanna be Willy Wallace crowd.... the guy with the White hose and tennis shoes.... these guys are the constant reminder why XMarks has benefited me...

I think the backwards kilt, Mel Gibson / Wallace wanta be, the guy with the two handed claymore, the guy with the mini-skirt, the guy with the dress, drags everything down a bit.
Although at the same time it is fun just to go and look for these folks.
And is is great to talk to others that are also looking at them.
Remember though.....if it wasn't for the kids that make the worst grades back in school you wouldn't know who the kids were that made the best grades!

I usually don't concern myself with the faux-pas (I'm sure I commit a few at times) but the only one I checked was the sporran worn too low, simply because I know how uncomfortable that is. I cringe just thinking about it banging on my thighs or constricting around my hips :shutter:

Pirate.... Aaaargh!
While I'm not a big fan of the Ren-Faire gear you see sported at many of the Highland games, nor the William Wallace wanna-bes decked out in their faux period costumes and festooned with weaponry, I'm positively mystified by the pirates that I've seen (in San Antonio and Arlington). That's definitely my pet peeve.
