Remember that the social group Per Mare Per Terras is the Clan MacDonald based social group, and if I were looking for a group of folks who might be interested in being part of a custom weave I would look there. Remember, though, at least with existing weavers of the various permutations of the McD Clanranald you can get a swatch before you make youre decision about which one to buy, and be assured that it will pretty much match that swatch when it arrives. With a custom weave you do not get a swatch in advance so whatever you get you are pretty much stuck with regardless of whether it is the right colorset you seek or not. Better off finding the one you like best from existing weavers and just ordering it from them-----cheaper too.

I also have some brothers who may or may not be inclined.

Indeed and all of this will weigh on my decision. I could get a swatch of the Lochaber and that would go a long way to reassuring me of the colours there.

If you have to go custom, let me know before-hand and perhaps we can find some others to weigh in on it.
Noted.

Xman... the swatches went out in the mail yesterday. Not sure how long the Canadian post takes to deliver letters, but it SHOULD be there within 10 days.

I'll bet you they aren't! In my experience Canada Post takes an extra week to organise things at the border. Luckily patience is a virtue. Thanks Rocky!

Just as an update to this thread;
I have contacted Marton Mills and they assure me that they are producing Clanranald in 16oz. although they have no explanation as to its exclusion from the website, and they sent me a sample. Very nice cloth.

Which MacDonald of Clanranald, the one with one white line in the middle of the green portion, or the one with two white lines , between the green and the black?
The Setts of the Scottish Tartans gives thread counts for both.

The universally accepted Clanranald tartan and the only one routinely woven is the one with two white lines between the black and green blocks, cousin. Others are, I believe a result of confusions with MacDonald of Glengarry.
