Looking for a book!

I've been studying the 42nd Royal Highlanders during the Revolutionary War period (1776-1782) and came across a book that seems like it would be an incredable wealth of knowledge on the period. It is called John Peebles' American War, 1776-1782 and is a copy of the day to day journal of John Peebles, an officer with the Grenadier company of the 42nd (Black Watch). I was wondering if anyone has a copy and is it worth the price ($70-$200+) as good piece of reference material. Below is a summary found on the Army Records Society web page.

John Peebles served as an officer with the grenadier company of the 42nd or Royal Highland Regiment (the Black Watch) for nearly the whole of the war for American Independence. Like many officers he kept a diary describing principal engagements and campaigns; British victories at White Plains and Fort Washington that secured New York in 1776; the struggle for eastern New Jersey; the invasion of Pennsylvania, and the battles of Brandywine and Germantown in 1777; The withdrawal from Philadelphia to New York, including the battle of Monmouth, 1778; the siege of Charlestown in 1780; and the belated British attempt to rescue Cornwallis at Yorktown in 1781.

But Peebles did far more than describe great events. Longer and more persistently than any British diarist of the American War, he recorded the details of army life, details that help explain what made the army formidable through a long frustrating war: the ritualistic observance of royal anniversaries, national and religious holidays, and British victories that reminded officers and men of common obligations and achievements; the pursuit of pleasure and recreation that helped form and sustain friendships within the officer corps; and the regular exchange of correspondence which kept up morale and morals.

I was able to find it at amazon and a few other sites but the price is very high! I was wondering if anyone has read it and is it worth the price. I don't mind paying a lot for something as long as the information is what I'm looking for.

ah, gotcha. no idea. i have read "Recollections of the Eventful Life of a Soldier : By a Sergeant in the Ninety-Fourth Scots Brigade" and i remember it was fairly interesting...not what you are looking for though. ;P

I requested it on interlibrary loan last year, based on a suggestion from fellow Xmarker Sir William. It was quite good. I'd contact Stackpole directly, or contact your local public library's interlibrary loan department and see if they can get a copy for you to review before making a purchase.
