Not to be fickle OC Richard, but It falls somewhere in between.

If I had to choose the closest "feel" of the tartan, I would say the bottom photo, but that photo seems to have a yellow wash over it that the tartan doesn't. It is more of a true tan/beige base color without the yellow. But, it presents as much more muted/weathered than the photo of the kilt. However, that may be, in part, a function of the kilt photo absorbing the lighter blue of the Jacket it's paired with. A brown jacket would likely have a different affect on it. I am anticipating it being a very versatile tartan to coordinate with.

With close inspection of the colors you can see they go from tan to light brown to olive to 3-4 shades of gray and blue. The reds go from an almost dark purple to a deep burgundy to a bit of fuschia.

Although I would always encourage people to order swatches prior to purchase, if you have gotten this far with the tartan, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed if you order it.

When I get a chance I'll do a tint adjust on the upper photo to make it a tad more like the lower photo.

The photos of my own kilt that I've posted have gone through the process of tint adjustment with the actual fabric in front of me, so that at least on my monitor it's correct. Seems that every photo distorts the colours to some extent.

OK, here's the original photos as they stand, each followed by a photo with the tint adjusted a bit, in an attempt to get somewhere between:

By the way, I notice that the Locharron kilt is pleated to the burgundy line in the beige portion.

This tartan might also lend itself to being pleated to the white line in the grey portion.

But both result in the kilt's pleated portion being much more pale than the overall tartan itself.

I will post pics of mine shortly. My dilemma was what kind of diced hose scheme should I go for. Mine will be a box pleat, and will be pleated to the blue bars, so that will be dominant from the back. The burgundy and beige will flash through when it swishes, so i'm thinking I'm going to go with that. With stone blue flashes, i think it will look fantastic!

I would love to see what it looks like, pleated to those blueish bars. I was thinking about that myself.

The Lochcarron kilt looks like it's pleated to the burgundy line in the beige band.

Doing what you suggest will be nice, because the back of the kilt won't be so pale, but have a deeper hue.

Also I'd like to see what sort of hose you go with.

For plain hose, grey hose with burgundy flashes would be my knee-jerk choice but there are so many colours in that tartan that I'm sure there are many unexpected colours which would work great.
