    Photo size/handling improvement

Disclaimer: I have no problem with the content of any specific photo on the site.

What does bug me is 'oversize' photos running the right side of the forum UI off my monitor.

Can the function be added to thumbnail & link to a pop up/new tab?
Or does this exist and nobody uses it?

Seems like it would clean up the UI and greatly increase page load times.

Or, suggest a image size to fit the forum page. But, the problem with this would be the monitor size. So, maybe have the image size suggested for a 15 inch monitor(?). I use both 17 and 19's and don't (currently) have the same problem as ggibby but do on other web sites.

Refreshing this, recently more threads have had GINORMOUS photos attached
    that result in much side-scrolling.

Seems like there must be a way to 'force' a maximum width of 7 inches.

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I have no problem with size limits if that will work. BUT-----

Please, PLEASE, if we are to go down that route, can we have the instructions of how to set up the system IN SIMPLE ENGLISH? No techno-jargon please, PLEASE! For those of us than don't know a "log on" from a" URL" or a "paste" from a "pixel" it will make life on the web rather less daunting.

Here's another option. In your control panel for the forum, you can select to have pictures displayed as URL links. You can click on the links you want to view as pictures and close them when you're done looking.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Don't worry about it, Jock, this is something ggibby could do to his settings without having the whole forum changed, and without effecting your screne.

It doesn't work if you are not logged in, though.

The forum software might have an automatic option that anything over a certain size/line length is displayed at the designated max and/or thumbnailed. No user intervention needed.

Another tack - when an image is oversize, it pushed the Sponsors' left-side links out of view for the entire scroll-down, which is not to their advantage.

I am looking into this problem.

So far I have not found the area in the forum software that allows photos to be limited to a certain size. I'm sure it is there, I just can't find it yet.

Is this running on vBB and if so which version? It certainly feels like it, but I know there are a number of mods fo YaBB which mimic vBB.

If I knew which I might be able to suggest something which would auto-resize images over a specific size down to a more standard size (say 400 pixels wide)
