I learned some N.Y. Yiddish working in the garment district of NYC back in the 60s..

Phonetic: "Hub Rock Monis" ( with the o in monis like "on") means sorta "have mercy on me" or "let me up" or "enough already"

Thanks for that ! I've heard of Oy Gevelt ! but this is a new one for me !

Latest report from the teacher in charge:-

"last update as we fly soon...arriving home Tuesday night.

The girls loved Mamma Mia last night and the boys enjoyed an early night, particularly as we could not wake them at 5pm to go to dinner. Today we had a very interesting tour around NBC Studios and then surprised them all with a trip to Coney Island, obviously they enjoyed that one! A final shop tonight and its off to bed by 9pm....no complaints they are totally shattered!
Up at 7am tomorrow for our ferry to Ellis Island, which we rescheduled from Saturday as the queue was ridiculous, then back to the hotel to pack. They have bought everything they can lay there hands on and will probably be charged excess baggage if we can get the plane off the runway!

The camel has been doing the rounds, and tomorrow the best name-chooser gets to keep him/her.*

No problems....they have all been great fun to be with

    Maurice, Tim and Lorna"

    * The camel is a soft toy which has been brought all the way on the trip and is assigned to any student who is late or does something silly - they have to look after it until relieved by the next wrongdoer ! a bit like pass the parcel"

Hazel's back home again ! She really loved it all and she didn't forget her old dad ! She brought me a green foam rubber Statue of Liberty crown ! It fits a treat ! She dared me to wear it at Muscat airport (which I did) and wore it to drive home as well ! And she got me a miniature oxidised metal Statue of Liberty too !
