Wonderful photos, thanks for sharing them!

That "Chieftan's Lass" thing is something the Highland Games around here need to implement, as quickly as possible...

Interesting to see a pipe band show up in Full Dress. Nobody around here has done that for many years, since the 1970's as I recall.

Looks like you were a very busy man! Thanks for sharing with us.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

    Thumbs up

Great photos! I have a couple questions though; I'm assuming the "Chieftan's Lass" is sort of a honorary position like "parade queen" etc.? Do they have a contest or elections? It's a cool idea though, I'd like to see something similar at our local games.

By a local tradition the town's principal horseman of the year, known as the Cornet is always an unmarried man who was born in the town, and his girlfriend or fiancee is the Cornet's Lass. So when we started highland games here in the south of Scotland and then decided that the Cornet would also be Chieftain of the Games it was appropriate that his Lass should also play a part. The young male horseman who is picked as Cornet is formally appointed at the beginning of the horse ride-out season which begins at the start of May, though from a practical point of view the Common Riding Committee make the choice many months beforehand.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures, Alex. It looks like you had a great day, and it's wonderful to see Ann out at the games.
