Don't miss your local Highland Games...

...not medical advice per se, but as I am still sitting here coughing my head off and feeling crappy about having missed the Chicago Games this past weekend because I have the flu...consider being smarter than me and get the damn flu shot and don't keep putting it off because it just doesn't seem like anybody you know is getting the flu.

Well I had a case of the real flu while in college, shortly after the big Hong Kong pandemic and so probably a variant of that, and having decided it could easily kill me, got better. But then I found out it did kill I think six students in my school in the same time period. So now I do get the shots and when people tell me how dangerous they think they are, I know what really kills you. And it's not the shots.

AA, sorry to hear you had the flu, it's no fun at all & I hope your feeling back up to snuff soon.

I've been getting flu shots for sometime now. On a related note last fall I finally got a pneumonia shot (good for 10 years). When I was in my early 20's (and a heavy smoker), I had back to back bouts of "walking pneumonia". The second bout nearly killed me (& I kicked a 2-pack a day habit cold turkey!).
As I've gotten older I've had to watch when I get bronchial infections, in my case it could turn to pneumonia easily. Thus I finally said enough is enough, and got the shot.

I'm happy to report that while this past winter I did have a bronchial cold or two, they never developed into a severe case as in the past!
Other folks I've talked to, who have had recurrent severe bronchial infections who got the pneumonia shot, have reported the same thing!

So, I'd add that besides the flu shot, if you have recurring bronchial issues, consider looking into a pneumonia shot too (talk with your physician first though).

Goddamn right . I'm looking with fierce determination at the soapbox, but I'm not gonna get on it.
