I wrote to the County Council of Cornwall, with reference to the Cornish tartan.

Not sure if this is the right department - please forward if not.

I am enquiring about the so called 'Cornish National Tartan'. Below is the link to the details that are publicly available.

http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...s.aspx?ref=766

My question is this - Has this tartan been officially recognised by the Council? If not this one, possibly a different tartan? If no tartan, does the Council have any plans to adopt a tartan?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give me.

Today I received a reply.

Dear Chas

Thank you for your enquiry.

The simple answer is no – the council has not been formally recognised the Cornish tartan. However, it is used on various occasions by the council, and is worn with pride by many councillors on formal occasions. It does not need our formal recognition to make it anything other than “special” to many people with connections to Cornwall.

We have no plans to adopt a tartan, and are very happy to continue to use the current one as appropriate.

I trust this is helpful.
