The prize of my produce, at least what I grow for humans, is my navel oranges.
oh, now you're just trying to make me jealous.

Don't make me look up what grows in your neck of the desert, Ali.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Ted,
Just exactly how does a bug graze?

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Usually with some sort of mandibles. Those pesky ants are always herding aphids around like cattle, so the analogy kind of fits...

I was always lead to believe that the name marmalade came from Mary Queen of Scots, who claimed that she consumed it "pour ma malade" (for my illness). And yes, that is not Scots Gaelic and neither is it Scots, it's French that she was speaking.
As to what to do with it, you spread it on bread, silly!

BBC - h2g2 - The Original Marmalade
They cite the Oxford English Dictionary, and trace the word back to Portuguese and French meaning quince conserve "marmelada." They also debunk and refute the myth that the word "marmalade" has anything to do with Mary Queen of Scots.
Please don't take my word for it, and look at the link.
In other news, I have several air layers of sour orange trees, now having been severed from their parent tree, adjusting to being trees on their own... and all over my house in plastic bag humidity chambers. There's some Flying Dragons too.
I've gotten two of them back out side in the shade so far, and they're doing fine.

Nothing grows in my particular neck of the desert Ted-- my feet have the kiss of death wherever they trod plants die.
Case in point: I had a lovely patch of strawberries come back from last year and more green berries than I could count and then we went on vacation and forgot to turn the sprinklers on. Now, tragically they are all dead and it makes me cry when I think of all of those beautiful berries that will never reach their potential.
So, I'm thinking we could set up some sort of shipment situation-- and a trade for goods, I can sew, knit, and crochet pretty well....

Ya, I almost never go on vacation for more than a couple of days. I don't trust those timer things, and I check the drip system every time I use it to make sure the drippers are in the right place and actually dripping.
What you need is a neighbor with a big garden who always ends up planting more than needed.

Actually, my dad does that, so it works out pretty well-- he lives close enough for us to take advantage of it on a regular basis, but we still don't get citrus...
